What You’ll See & Do

Welcome on board! A nice early start sees us leave the ‘big smoke’ of Auckland, after our meet and greet we load into the van and head north towards Waipu for lunch via a beautiful section of coastline only a stone’s throw from the city of sails. We stop at Mcleod’s Brewery and Pizza Barn for lunch, then continue on our way to the Bay of Islands. On arrival at our accommodation in Paihia, you will be given time to settle in and get changed before we embark on an exclusive evening sailing trip around the surrounding bays. We have chartered the boat just for our group, so this is the perfect opportunity to share a drink and get to know your fellow road-trippers. After the sailing trip, we head back to the accommodation where you can explore the local cuisines for dinner and experience the Paihia nightlife with your new crew.

You then have a full free day to explore this town and learn the significance of the area! Try the Bay of Islands Skydive? Jump on a day trip to Cape Reinga to the top of NZ and try sandboarding our giant sand dunes! Explore the historical town of Russel (First capital of NZ), Jump on a cruise to see the famous ‘hole in the rock’ and dolphin watching or get familiar with the NZ Maori history and the famous Treaty of Waitangi at the grounds that you can join a guided tour and learn the roots of NZ. We start day 3 slightly later than the day before, to allow time for a sleep in and breakfast. Afterwards, we’ll then set off by winding our way up the east coast to explore some stunning beaches and short walks. We stop at one of, if not the best, fish and chip shops in the country (a bold claim, we know, so you’ll have to try for yourself!) for lunch*. We then continue on our way across the country (literally) to the west coast to our accommodation at the southern end of 90 Mile Beach. You may be lucky enough to witness a west coast sunset while your tour leader will be cooking up a feed on the barbecue because is it really a New Zealand road trip without a BBQ Dinner?

After this incredible experience, we will head back for breakfast then cruise back in time to board a car ferry that crosses the sleepy waters of the Hokianga Harbour. This little-known area was the birthplace of our nation where you’ll experience incredible Maori history on a guided tour and again when we go to visit Tāne Mahuta – the God of the forest.
