What You'll See & Do

Welcome on board! A nice early start sees us leave the ‘big smoke’ of Auckland, after our meet and greet we load into the van and head north towards Waipu for lunch via a beautiful section of coastline only a stone’s throw from the city of sails. We stop at Mcleod’s Brewery and Pizza Barn for lunch, then continue on our way to the Bay of Islands. On arrival at our accommodation in Paihia, you will be given time to settle in and get changed before we embark on an exclusive evening sailing trip around the surrounding bays. We have chartered the boat just for our group, so this is the perfect opportunity to share a drink and get to know your fellow road-trippers. After the sailing trip, we head back to the accommodation where you can explore the local cuisines for dinner and experience the Paihia nightlife with your new crew.

You’ll start the day in the beautiful coastal town of Paihia before the guides prepare a tasty continental breakfast. You then have a full free day to explore this town and learn the significance of the area! Try the Bay of Islands Skydive? Jump on a day trip to the top of NZ and try sandboarding our giant sand dunes! Explore the historical town of Russel (First capital of NZ), Jump on a cruise to see the famous ‘hole in the rock’ and dolphin watching or get familiar with the NZ Maori history and the famous Treaty of Waitangi at the grounds that you can join a guided tour and learn the roots of NZ. Enjoy your last dinner in Paihia with your group and the night is yours!

We start day 3 slightly later than the day before, to allow time for a sleep in and breakfast. Afterwards, we’ll then set off by winding our way up the east coast to explore some stunning beaches and short walks. We stop at one of, if not the best, fish and chip shops in the country (a bold claim, we know, so you’ll have to try for yourself!) for lunch*. We then continue on our way across the country (literally) to the west coast to our accommodation at the southern end of 90 Mile Beach. You may be lucky enough to witness a west coast sunset while your tour leader will be cooking up a feed on the barbecue because is it really a New Zealand road trip without a BBQ Dinner?

It may be the last day but we aren’t finished yet! Start your day right with a Sunrise surf lesson on the famous 90-mile beach where you’ll be looked after by qualified surf instructors. After this incredible experience, we will head back for breakfast then cruise back in time to board a car ferry that crosses the sleepy waters of the Hokianga Harbour. This little-known area was the birthplace of our nation where you’ll experience incredible Maori history on a guided tour and again when we go to visit Tāne Mahuta – the God of the forest. Depending on weather and group energy levels, there is an opportunity to stop at Kai Iwi lakes, before making the final leg of the journey back to Auckland where we plan to arrive back in Auckland CBD by 7pm. Spend the night in Auckland before we head down south tomorrow!

A nice early start sees us leave the ‘big smoke’ of Auckland and head to the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula. Here, you’ll see why this region is a favourite for Kiwis on their summer holidays and why it’s constantly regarded as one of the most stunning parts of the world. First a quick lunch stop in the famous Goldmine town in historic Thames. Then we will visit the famous Cathedral Cove beach (as seen in multiple Hollywood feature films). You have the option to do a free 30 min walk one way to this beautiful spot. Or you could choose to do a kayaking tour as an optional add on. Depending on the time of the tides we may have time today or tomorrow to grab a shovel and dig a mini Jacuzzi at the unreal Hot Water Beach. After an epic day of sun, sand and surf, it’s time to head to our accommodation in Whitianga, where we’ll have some kai (food) – a classic Kiwi BBQ. From there, the night is yours!

After breakfast and a van-load of new friends, it’s time to head south. From Coromandel well head to New Zealand’s tourism Mecca – Rotorua. On the way to this geothermal wonderland you will have the option to get lost in the magical world of Hobbiton or check out some of the clearest springs you’ve ever seen. After we check out a beautiful waterfall we arrive in Rotorua where we are welcomed by a local tribe and be guided through Ohinemutu Village where you will experience a living Maori and geothermal village and learn about daily way of life. The rest of the day is yours where you can immerse yourself in more traditional Maori culture in Rotorua or try out any of the exciting adrenaline filled activities in this town.

After breakfast its our last day to enjoy this culture filled town! You’ll have free time today till the afternoon to tick off your last bucket list activities! At midday we will head over to start our overnight cultural experience close to Lake Aniwhenua. We will be welcomed to the Ngati Manawa tribal lands, Learn about the history of forestry to their people where we stay overnight with with them. See hangi (cultural meal) being laid in the ground, enjoy a haka lesson and weaving class. See your hangi being pulled up from the ground and enjoy a buffet feast followed by storytelling around an outdoor fire place! This is as authentic as it gets!

Wake up early and enjoy a breakfast prepared for you by our local hosts! After we will pack for the day ahead as we will be guided on a cultural walk through a Jurassic Podocarp Native Rainforest. See our 1,000 year old Totara, learn about our Rakau Rongoa (Natural Medicine Plants), hear and hopefully see our native and endangered birds in their natural habitat. Listen to their history, as you walk in the shadows of giants, and tread where dinosaurs once walked. After this epic experience we are off to our next destination! This time to stunning Lake Taupo, but not before stopping in at the breath-taking Huka Falls. Here, 200,000 litres per second of crystal clear water flows from the great lake into the start of New Zealand’s longest river – the Waikato River. For sunset we will board an exclusive yacht charter with our group around the lake itself! We provide dinner on board, feel free more a few beverages for this epic experience.

After breakfast your free to explore the town and do as many activities or see as much as you want! There is also an option for people wanting to go for a trek and tick off the ‘Tongariro Alpine Crossing’ off their bucket list! This is heralded as the best one-day trek in New Zealand and is regarded as among the top ten single-day treks in the world. Other guests are of course welcome to spend the day in Taupo exploring the activities on offer or come for a drive and explore he town of Ohakune. We will all meet back in Taupo to explore the local cuisines with our crew! Then the night is yours!

After a few hours in the van, we’ll arrive into New Zealand’s best kept secret, River Valley. This afternoon we’ll chill out and enjoy our stunning lodge with on-site café and bar, saunas, and spa. Using the Lodge as a base, you can go on a rafting adventure, a horse trek, or explore some of the local rural back roads on an e-bike. Of course, you could simply relax beside the river and enjoy some delicious food, many of the ingredients of which come from the on-site organic gardens. Tonight your in for a treat as you’ll be served a farm to table dinner made with fresh seasonal vegetables harvested from their gardens and free range organic or grass fed local meats. The night is ours after!

Enjoy a full cooked breakfast before heading south from Taihape, we’ll stop at the home of New Zealand’s army base to stretch our legs and have some lunch. From there, we trek on to the nation’s capital – Wellington! Once in ‘Welly’, we’ll grab some dinner and hit the streets of this incredible city on a local pub crawl. Doesn’t sound like your cup of tea? No problemo! The night is yours to explore what is often referred to as NZ’s coolest city.

After breakfast, the day is yours! Get lost in Wellington. Plenty of exciting things to choose from in NZ’s coolest city

Some Important Details

COVID restrictions/changes or cancellations to your booking

  • All cancellations of bookings by you must be made in writing. We will not regard a booking as cancelled unless an email written notice has been received by us from you.
  • Cancellation can only be made up to 14 days before the departure of your tour. Once the cancellation is accepted a refund of the total ticket price (less the $99 deposit) will be paid to you. The refundable portion does not include the non-refundable $99 deposit.
  • No refunds will be available for cancellations within 14 days of the departure date.
  • We recognise that our current tours may require flexibility around cancellations during this evolving global situation. As such, if your travel arrangement to the meetup zone has been affected due to COVID Alert level restrictions your tour purchase will be 100% refundable (excl. any credit card, booking fee).


What to bring?

  • We ask that you only bring 2 bags: 1 medium-sized one for your clothes and general belongings, and 1 small day bag to keep with you on the bus
  • New Zealand weather can be unpredictable, so make sure you bring swimwear and a towel, as well as warm clothes and a rain jacket
  • All bedding is provided, but you can bring your favourite pillow if you like
